Packing for Vegas

This is going to my first ever business trip, and where else am I going but the city of sin – Las Vegas! I’ll be attending a 3 day conference, but I’ll have most of the evenings to myself so you can bet I’ll be doing some serious shopping!

I  used to always over pack and never have enough room for my shopping finds. But over the last couple years I’ve learned to perfect the art of packing light. It’s hard to do especially when you want to make sure you have the perfect outfit for every occasion. But put that aside and think realistically.  Pack what you need, and pack thoughtfully. Here are a few tips I keep in mind while packing.

  1. Plan for the weather – It’s going to be a hot 30 °C during the day, so most of my outfits will be have skirts and dresses
  2. Plan out your outfits for each day and bring only what you’ll actually wear.  This way you won’t have the stress of to mixing and matching your outfits on the go and filling your suitcase with useless items.
  3. Plan your outfits to do double duty. Go easily from day to night with a change of outerwear, shoes, and accessories. For example, during the day I’ll have a black blazer over all my outfits to make them more professional. Then at night, I can dress up with a quick change of shoes and accessories.

As you can see in the pic above, I’ve packed super light. Basically one outfit per day with a few extra t’s and tanks, just in case. :)

First day: I’ll be wearing flats, black jeggings, a white t, a light cardy, and black blazer for the flight. I want to be in something warm and comfy! In my carry-on suitcase I’ll have:

  • 2 skirts + 2 tops
  • 1 dress
  • 1 bikini
  • 1 pair of mid heel pumps
  • 1 pair of flip flops
  • 2 tanks (extra)
  • 1 tee (extra)
  • And twice as much socks and underwear as I’ll actually need. :)

All together my carry-on suitcase is only about 1/3 full with clothes and only half full with my make-up and toiletries. This leaves me the perfect amount of room to shop as well!
