Where has the summer gone? I can hardly believe it’s midway through August already. The end of July was a minute ago and I swear blinked and 2 more weeks went by and here we are.
While I’m seeing other bloggers starting to share fall outfit ideas, I’m still in summer mode and planning to savour every moment it. Which leads me to today’s topic of the art of savouring the good things in your life.
But before we get into that, let’s talk about a little bit about this summer outfit here from Ann Taylor. This is actually quite an adventurous outfit for me, where I’ve branched out from my regular colour palette wearing purple and green – both colours I usually never wear – and then putting them together in one outfit.
I’m actually quite pleased with how it turned out. I was originally feeling that purple and green might be an unlikely colour combination. But Ann Taylor’s flattering feminine styles, they’ve come together quite well for a dainty summer look.
I’ve also been obsessed with these strappy block heeled sandals that are also from Ann Taylor, and if your follow me on Instagram I think I’ve worn them in the last 4 photos in a row. They’re so versatile and look so chic with practically everything, and I’m trying to get as many wears out of them before fall officially hits.

Savouring the Moment and Enjoying Life
So often I find myself just rushing through my days, checking off my to-do list, chasing goals, and so busy just trying to get everything done.
But this week when I realized that summer was nearly over, it made me really think about how I was spending my time and if I could create more joy and appreciation out of it.
Savouring your time is actually a psychology model that suggests that actively savouring the present moment stretches your experience of time. For example, when you want time to pass quickly, you might wish yourself elsewhere. When you want to prolong something, you hold yourself right where you are.
I started to do some reading on this and thought it was such an interesting concept, finding that the act of simply appreciating the good things in your life can actually help you slow down, linger in the moment, and ultimately live a happier life.
So keep reading to learn 5 simple ways I’ve found to savour your time and enjoy the moment…
5 Simple Ways to Savour the Moment
1. Focus on simple joys
Try to notice the little things that can make a day special — the smile of a friend, the kindness of a stranger or the beauty of a sunset.
We often get so caught up we forget to appreciate the beauty and blessings we have all around us. By taking notice and enjoying what’s around you, moment by moment, and it helps us slow down and appreciate things we often take for granted.
2. Focus on sensations
When you take time to feel the experience of sound, smells, and sensory details, it helps you live fully in that moment and be present.
As you go through your day, notice and try to remember the details particularly the positive ones of what’s going on around you. And with this you can create memories to savour and recall later on.
3. Practice gratitude
I know that gratitude is have a bit of a moment right now, but there’s actually a lot of truth behind it. Intentionally thinking about what you appreciate will lighten your life and help you live mindfully.
So give it try, start a simple gratitude journal or even just make a daily practice of naming 3 things that you’re thankful for every morning. It’s truly a habit that will help shift your perspective on life in a positive way.
4. Focus on the positives
As humans, we’re naturally wired to notice the negative moments in life more than the positive. It comes from our caveman days where if we’re aware of threats around us, we’ll be prepared to launch a defence.
But by actively working to focus on the positive, we can stress less and enjoy life more from a more optimistic vantage point that will lead to greater happiness overall.
5. Remind yourself how quickly time passes
Time is precious and by realizing how quickly moments can pass you by will remind you to absorb more of what’s happening right now.
Stop thinking about your to-do list tomorrow and actually listen when your partner is talking, sip that that morning coffee instead of chugging it it down, and eat your food not in front of the television. Savour the moment and enjoy it!
