My Experience & Review of Calming for Dogs

Living in Toronto, summer thunderstorms are a fairly common occurrence. And one that leaves my poor dog Chloe hiding under the bed or madly cuddling up to us shaking in fear.

With an expected thunderstorm in the weather forecast and clouds starting to roll in, I gave Chloe 1/2 a chew (the recommended dosage for dogs under 25lbs) as it takes about 30 minutes for the chews to start working.

Chloe loved the smell and taste of the calming chew and happily gobbled it down when I presented it to her and even tried to ask for another one. I stuck to the recommended dosage, but it’s actually fine to give them two or even three times the regular dosage if your dog is exhibiting a lot of stress.

I’ll admit, I was pretty skeptical to having the Calming for Dogs chew supplement to work on Chloe. We’ve tried other methods, like pressure wraps, to help keep her calm, but hadn’t had much success with them, so my expectations weren’t too high.

As the rain started to come down and the thunder started to rumble, I was quite surprised to see Chloe just sitting with us on the couch while we watched the TV, seemingly not bothered by the claps of the thunder outside.

She did let out a few small pants at the height of the storm, but overall she didn’t exhibit the full spectrum of fearful shaking and crying she often had to go through with every storm.

Throughout the experience, she was her same regular self, not seeming drowsy or tired, just her natural self, without any noticeable side effects. This was reassuring for me, because I wouldn’t want her to be uncomfortable in any way.

Overall Thoughts on Calming for Dogs

After using Calming for Dogs, I’ve found that it to be an easy and effective treatment to help keep Chloe calm and give her some peace during thunderstorms.

I would definitely use them again for future storms, or even other stressful situations like going to see the fireworks over upcoming the Labour Day long weekend.

I like how the chews can be given on an as-needed basis and so she would only have to take it when there’s a stressful situation.

Plus, since Chloe is a picky eater, I was happy that she liked the chew and would easily take it without a struggle.

I also liked the fact that Calming for Dogs doesn’t contain herbals and didn’t change her personality or make her drowsy or tried when she took it.
