Even today, there are still many beauty products contain toxic mystery ingredients. These ingredients sit on our skin all day long. For many of them, we have to question why are they in our skincare in the first place at all? It’s no wonder natural and clean beauty brands have been a growing in popularity.
The rise of the clean beauty trend means that there are a lot more options out there to choose from. But with that, there’s a lot of noise to sift through when it comes to figuring out what “clean beauty” means exactly.
So what is clean beauty? Generally speaking, clean beauty products are free of parabens, silicones, sulphates, phthalates and synthetic fragrances and generally non-toxic. Many are also environmentally conscious, and using plant-based ingredients.
In this day and age, we all want to do better. Not only when it comes to being more discerning about what we put on our face, but also to what we’re doing to the environment in the name of beauty.
The truth is beauty products are taking its toll on our planet. From the ingredients they contain, to the packaging they’re contained in. So if you’re looking to clean up your act, check out these 5 clean beauty brands that are offering innovative ways to take care of our skin and look our best.

5 Clean Beauty Brands
That Should Be On Your Radar

1. Glow Recipe: K-Beauty Inspired Clean Beauty Brand
Glow Recipe is natural Korean inspired skincare brand that’s taken the world by storm the last few years. Their goal is to take Korea’s latest skin care trends and make them accessible to beauty-forward women across the globe.
Their K-beauty-inspired products are fun and fresh, with fruit-powered skincare in unexpected sensorial textures, colourful packaging, and innovative ingredients. Best of all, they’re fairly priced and deliver real results for your skin.
Glow Recipe‘s products are clean, cruelty-free and free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates, and have Sephora’s clean seal.
I’ve personally been using Glow Recipe products for about 2 years now. And I love the brand for their innovative and effective products. The Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum is their latest addition to their product line and has quickly become one of my favourites as well!
The serum is a blend of kakadu plum, multiple hyaluronic acids, vegan silk protein, and vegan collagen. And after using the Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum my skin looks plump and smooth. I also see a noticeable improvement in texture, plus it has an uber cute bottle bottle to boot!

2. Honest Beauty – Clean Skincare and Beauty
Honest Beauty is Jessica Alba’s line of natural and organic beauty, skincare and baby products. They’ve been around for quite a number of years. But it wasn’t more recently that I personally started using them myself.
The Honest Beauty line uses natural, organic, non-toxic ingredients that are ethically sourced and most importantly – actually work. They pride themselves on effectiveness as well as safety of their clean beauty products. Plus, I love that they fall in a very affordable price range that makes them accessible for everyone.
Some of my favourites include the Hydrogel Face Cream that has a beautiful bouncy texture that hydrates the skin beautifully. As well as their and their Luminzing Glow Powder that gives my skin the perfect glow.
Another product I love is their Extreme Length Mascara and Lash Primer. It’s a 2-in-1 that hat creates beautifully defined long lashes, while being gentle and non-irritating to the eye area.
Honest Beauty is now available at Shopper’s Drug Mart in Canada!

3. Jowaé: French Korean Plant-Based Skincare Brand
Jowaé is a French and Korean clean skincare brand. They use natural ingredients derived from traditional Korean medicinal plants to help keep skin at a balance.
The key active ingredient in Jowaé’s products are Lumiphenols. This patented ingredient is designed to shield, detoxify, repair and brighten the skin. This is thanks to their high content of antioxidants, polyphenols, and flavonoids. Combined they help skin to regain balance and protect itself against daily aggressors such as pollution, stress, and fatigue.
My favourite Jowaé product is the Hydrating Water Mist that contains sakura blossom water & antioxidant Lumiphenols. I use it after make-up removal to prepare skin for my skincare. As well as throughout the day as a hydrating mist to give my skin a boost when it’s looking tired. I love how feels so refreshing on my the skin and the scent is so soothing and energizing.

4. aN-hydra: Waterless Sustainable Clean Skincare Brand
aN-hydra is an innovative, sustainable, skincare line that just launched this year. What’s unique about their products are that they’re made without water.
Since most skincare is 80% water, by removing water from their products they can greatly reduced water footprint and waste. The result is having simplified skincare made with just pure ingredients.
They have a unique DIY approach to skincare. Water is added to them to them at the time of use. And they can even combined with other raw ingredients to make customizable formulas for your skin. Their products are preservative-free, clean, vegan and contain zero water.
aN-hydra’s 3 core products are their Microbiome Cleanser, Hyaluronic Hydrator and Powder-C Brightener. These can be used on their own mixed with water. But also in combination with a DIY kit that contains ingredients like activated charcoal, avocado oil, agave, matcha, ground coffee and colloidal oatmeal. The recipes for the formulas are found on their website and target everything from acne treatments to detoxifying skin.
I’ve had a lot of fun DIY’ing my own masks and treatments. Additionally I think the process really helped me better understand the needs of my skin and how to treat it. You really have the opportunity to customize your skincare routine to your liking, which is something I really love. It truly is skincare re-imagined.

5. Zero by Skin Academy: Natural & Sustainable Vegan Skincare Brand
Zero by Skin Academy is 100% natural, plant-based, cruelty-free, vegan beauty brand from the UK. They recently launched in Canada are available exclusively at Shopper’s Drug Mart.
Their products are created with high quality botanical ingredients to care for your skin day and night. Zero by Skin Academy also believes that natural beauty shouldn’t cost the earth in any way. So all their products are sustainably packaged and fully recyclable.
My favourite product from the Zero by Skin Academy lineup is their Night Cream. I find it to be both hydrating and nourishing with Shea Butter and regenerating Green Tea Extract. And I love how the texture was light and rich and calming my sensitive skin.
