July 15th is National Clean Beauty Day! If you’re a skincare and makeup lover like me, I’m sure you’ve noticed that there is been a huge clean beauty movement that has been sweeping the shelves of beauty counters and drugstores alike.
But what is clean beauty?
There are so questions around clean beauty – is clean beauty good? is clean beauty better for your skin, and what does clean beauty even really mean?
Simply put, clean beauty comes down to makeup and skincare products that are safe and non-toxic with transparent labeling of what goes into the products.
Many people think that clean beauty should be natural or organic. And some clean beauty products definitely are, but clean beauty can also include safe synthetics and non toxic ingredients.
More so, many clean beauty brands have come to also include environmentally friendly packaging as well as sustainability in means of production. Which is so amazing since the beauty industry has been notoriously bad for packaging waste in the past.
Clean beauty products have come so far the last couple years in terms of effectiveness and formulation as well! So I wanted to share some of the clean beauty favourites I’m currently using and loving right now!

Biossance – Squalane + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum
Biossance is one of my favourite clean beauty brands. Driven by biotechnology their clean skincare is effective while doing good for the world.
I have a number of favourites from their lineup, but the Squalane + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum has been a must for me this summer.
With a slight tingle, this serum gently exfoliates with lactic acid and gives me skin such a fresh glow, feeling softer and smoother by the morning.
Antipodes – Halo Facial Mud Mask
Antipodes is a clean beauty brand from New Zealand that is plant powered vegan beauty with organic ingredients.
With mineral rich mud from New Zealand, the Halo Skin Brightening Facial Mud Mask is amazing for detoxing the skin. I use it on a weekly basis and my skin feels so clean and clear after.
It’s a great mask for all skin types, especially if you deal with breakouts. I find this mask isn’t drying (as many mud/clay masks are) and didn’t irritate my sensitive skin.
Honest Beauty – Calm and Porefect Serum
This Honest Beauty serum is for all you sensitive skin types who want a glow!
The Calm and Porefect is a gentle exfoliating serum with niacinamide and a calming Phyto-Blend to sooth sensitive skin. It helps skin tone appear more even and improves texture without leaving skin feeling dry for a more radiant complexion.
Whenever my skin is irritated, I just use this serum for a few days, and it helps to get by skin back to itself and looking good!
Versed – On the Rise Firming Serum
Versed makes vegan, cruelty-free, clean skincare. Their skincare is simple and affordable and I love how this makes their products more accessible as well.
I love how the On the Rise Firming Serum tackles all signs of aging, with a special focus on firming skin. The formula contains, peptides, vitamin C and reversol, and plumps and smooths the appearance of fine lines over time.
Native – Coconut and Vanilla Deodorant
I’ve been struggling for years to find a natural deodorant that actually works. And I was so happy to discover this once from Native that is part of Shoppers Drug Mart’s Thoughtful Choices Collection.
Recently Shoppers Beauty has made it easier to you to discover clean beauty products with their curated selection of clean, conscious, beauty products that are part of their Thoughtful Choices lineup.
This Native Coconut and Vanilla Deodorant smells great and lasts all day! It comes in the traditional deodorant stick form that’s easy to use. I love that it’s non irritating to my skin and actually works better than many regular deodorants that I’ve tried.
SkinGear – Sunkissed Glow Drops + Electric Gua Sha
I’ve been using a Gua Sha tool for the past year or so, but the Electric Gua Sha and Sunkissed Glow Drops have really stepped up my facial massage!
The Skingear Electric Gua Sha tool is shaped like a butterfly, and at first I thought, oh that’s cute. But after using it, I found the shape was perfect for getting into all the corners of my face, and even around my eyes and nose in areas places I wasn’t able reach before!
And that’s not even the best part, it’s a 4 in 1 tool that uses micro-electronic control combined with heating, vibration, and LED functions to promote product penetration, excrete toxins, and repair damaged skin.
I use the Electric Gua Shaw with the Sunkissed Glow Drops and like it’s it name it gives my skin a great glow. It’s a luxe skincare oil with natural ingredients that complement my Gua Shaw massage perfectly.
Authentic Beauty Concept – Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner
Authentic Beauty Concept is holistic haircare brand that was co-created by hairstylists. Their products use naturally derived ingredients that are vegan and cruelty free, but also effective.
I’ve been using the Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner and they make my hair feel clean and well managed.
I have dry hair, but also fine hair, and the Hydrate line give my hair the hydration it needs without weighing it down. Plus it smells so lovely!
Graydon – Full Moon Serum
Graydon Skincare is a Canadian clean beauty brand that I’ve recently discovered through Shoppers Thoughtful Choices Collection. They utilize pure, plant-based ingredients to create effective result driving skincare.
The Full Moon Serum is is a nourishing potion that’s packed with anti aging ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid to feed the skin. I love how it’s do-it-all anti aging serum which helps to simplify my skincare routine.
I’m so happy to see how far clean beauty has come in terms of creating non-toxic products that are effective, as well as being more conscious of environmental impact. I’m also excited to see how beauty, makeup and skincare will grow and evolve in this direction!
Hope you enjoyed this clean beauty roundup!
