5 styles of coats every woman should have in their closet
I love shopping for affordable fashion finds, but coats – and particularly winter coats – are one piece of clothing I firmly believe in investing in.
A good coat can last you years, make the cold weather more bearable, and if you’ve chosen well, will remain timeless in style.
From the classic trench coat for those balmier days to a long puffer jacket for those winter blizzards, having the right types of coats in your closet will take you where you need to go in both comfort and style.
I have quite the coat obsession and have built a good collection of coats, but these 5 essential coat styles are the ones I continue to wear year after year.
5 Essential Coats Every Woman Needs In Their Closet
1. A Classic Trench
No closet is complete without a classic trench coat! This transitional layering piece is a perfect option for crisp fall days to cool winter mornings.
If you want to make an investment, it doesn’t get more classic than a camel-colored Burberry trench. I love trenches classic neutral colours, but can get in on the trend and go with a surprising color, or replace the attached belt with a bold leather cincher.
2. Camel Wool Coat
Consider this the camel wool coat to be the winter complement to the classic trench coat. It’s warmer version that makes any outfit look more polished.
The camel wool coat is another must have coat style that’s classic and has stood the test of time. The 2 styles I love most are a longer version that’s belted and shorter version that has a little more structure. I find the latter better for every day, but love the longer version too for wearing over dresses during the winter.
3. Plaid and Checkered Coats
I believe that least one of the coats in your closet should be an eye-catching outerwear piece. And for me it’s the checkered/plaid style wool coat. This coat style is timeless, yet still adds some character to any outfit.
4. Winter Parka
Having a parka is a must if you live in the colder climates. They are perfect the functional coats for a casual cover-up for day to day out and about.
5. Puffer Coat
There’s nothing like a good puffer jacket to keep you cozy on the chilliest days. And they’re cute, as much as they are warm, and right now quite trendy too!
Puffer coats are great for beating the both cold and the wind. Don’t forget to get one with a hood, you’ll be thankful for it on those extra frigid days!

November 30, 2017I love coats so much. My favorite this season are the warm 3/4 length puffer coats. I also like any and all pea coats. Coats are the best part of winter.

November 28, 2017I like trench coats. I have one, but it’s a bit too small for me. I want to update my look a little bit and get a different one. Its true though, in Colorado you need a few different types of coats from fall to winter.

November 28, 2017I love the wool coat (the third photo). Even the color is nice! I already have other coats I need to shield me from the cold and snow, but a fashionable wool coat is something I would definitely add to my wardrobe this year.
