5 Coats That You Should Have In Your Closet

Snow day: long cool coat and soft plaid scarf. So cute!

I will never forget my first winter in Toronto. I was totally unprepared for the cold and nearly froze to death that winter. It didn’t take long before I realized that you need a variety of coats to carry you from fall through winter. From a classic trenches for those balmy fall days to a hooded puffer for those winter blizzards, there is an outwear option for just any environment. Here are my picks for 5 types of coats you put over your outfit that are just as good as what’s underneath.

1.   A Classic Trench

Trenches are the perfect for those balmy fall days.

No closet is complete without a classic trench coat,  this key transitional piece is a perfect option for crisp Fall days to cool Winter morning.  If you want to make an investment, it doesn’t get more classic than a camel-colored Burberry trench. You can get in on the trend and go with a surprising color, or replace the attached belt with a bold leather cincher.

2. Wool Coat

Fashion Blogger style - love this grey cocoon coat

Wool coats are super versatile and can be dressed up or down. They’re fairly warm, especially when layered with sweaters and scarves. They come in different lengths, so pick own that works for you. Longer ones are great for keeping out the cold, white shorter ones are more functional if you’re on the go.

3. Puffer Jacket

A good puffy jacket for those close winter days

Nothing like a good puffy jacket to keep you cozy on those snowy days. They beat the both cold and the wind. Don’t forget to get one with a hood, you’ll be thankful for it on those cold days!

4. Camel Coat

Camel coats are so classic. Everyone needs one of these in their closet

Consider this the camel coat cool parent to the classic trench coat — a warmer version but one that’s stood the test of time while still coming in and out of trendiness.

5. Parka

Parkas are perfect functional coat for those cold winter days

Inspired by those worn in polar regions, this is a heavier version of the classic anorak. Parkas are perfect the functional coats  for a casual cover-up for day to day out and abouts.

I love the wool coat (the third photo). Even the color is nice! I already have other coats I need to shield me from the cold and snow, but a fashionable wool coat is something I would definitely add to my wardrobe this year.

I like trench coats. I have one, but it’s a bit too small for me. I want to update my look a little bit and get a different one. Its true though, in Colorado you need a few different types of coats from fall to winter.

The camel coat is a classic and is definitely as fashionable now as when it first came out. A good jacket that will keep you warm in the fall and through the winter is essential. Thanks for sharing your picks!

I love coats so much. My favorite this season are the warm 3/4 length puffer coats. I also like any and all pea coats. Coats are the best part of winter.
