Summers are all about being outside, leaving the city’s hustle, and heading to cottage country. It feels so good to escape the city and leave the stress behind. Cottage getaways are my favourite way to relax, unwind, and appreciate the more simple things in life. There’s BBQs, bonfires, and boat outings all in the company of friends and family. The cottage life is a good life.

Cottage lifestyle is all about ease and comfort, so it’s no question your style should reflect the same. But that doesn’t mean you have to be bumming around in your sweats and flip flops and sacrifice your style for comfort. I’ve collaborated with Macy’s and Max Studio London to put together this effortless chic cottage look that’s perfect for the all your fun summer occasions from the beach to the BBQ and sipping drinks on the dock.

Cottage Style

Peasant style blouses are one of my favorite summer pieces. This warm-weather essential is lightweight, feminine, and comfortable to wear. It has a free-spirited, hippie feel that’s perfect for the cottage lifestyle. To keep it casual, I’ve paired the peasant top with blue terry cloth shorts and lace up espadrilles. These are both leisurely fabulous, fuss-free, and all about comfort.  And lastly, a cottage look is never complete without a hat and sunnies. If you spend all day in the sun you’ll need to protect your eyes and face, so you might as well look cute while doing it.

Getting away to the cottage for a blast of nature is a treat we all deserve, but not everyone has access to a home on a lake in the countryside. For the rest of you, here are three easy tips for creating that perfect cottage lifestyle, wherever you may happen to be.

1. Go play outside
Part of the fun of having a getaway outside the city is just that: outside! Get the whole family together for a picnic at the park, beach or even your own backyard. Spending times outdoors has the amazing ability to relax and recharge.

2. Unplug and disconnect
Quiet times together make rare appearances in our busy day-to-day lives, but they’re part of what makes any cottage getaway special. By putting away phones, tablets and laptops, you’ll free up time for togetherness and real conversation. Cue the board games!

3. Eat together
Maximize the quality time like enrolling the whole squad into prepping and eating all meals together. A big homemade Sunday brunch is always a good idea!
