Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Because we all frequently touch their eyes, nose, and mouth without even realizing it germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose and mouth and make us sick.
Washing your hand with good ol’ soap and water is one of the best ways to remove germs and viruses, prevent the spread of them, and to ensure you don’t get sick. But if you don’t have access to soap and clean water, or if you’re out and about and nowhere near a sink, you should carry hand sanitizer to protect your health.
As you’re probably aware, hand sanitizer have been one of the first things have have sold out in stores and online. Luckily, it’s remarkably easy to make you own homemade DIY hand sanitizer with just a few ingredients you might already have in home.

DIY Hand Sanitizer – Gel Forumla
This gel formula DIY hand sanitizer with alcohol is safe to use and super easy to make. It only requires 3 ingredients and actually feels quite similar to Purell. The best part is you’re likely to already have the ingredients in your bathroom cabinets or under the sink.
Note: How effective your homemade hand sanitizer is highly depends on the percentage of alcohol you’re using. Since your sanitizer mix must be at least 60 percent alcohol to be effective, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, so a bottle of 99 percent isopropyl alcohol is the best thing to use for making homemade hand sanitizer.
Hand Sanitizer Ingredients & Tools
– Isopropyl alcohol
– Aloe vera gel
– Tea tree oil or any other essential oils
– Small bottles
– Mixing bowl & spoon
Instructions
- Make sure to thoroughly clean all your mixing bowl and spoons beforehand.
- Mix 3 parts isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to 1 part aloe vera gel.
- Add a few drops of essential oils to give it a pleasant scent
- Put in a small bottle and dispense when needed.

March 15, 2020Just throwing it out there that it’s important to mention that the alcohol should be 90% and higher in order for this to be effective! Once diluted, it can’t be lower than 60% or it doesn’t actually kill germs.
Eileen
March 15, 2020Thanks Jaime! You’re definitely right on that and I mentioned it as well and suggested using 99% alcohol just to make sure it the solution has enough efficacy.
