There are few things better than a cup of hot, aromatic, coffee in the morning. And the truth is most of us can’t even start our day without one.
Coffee has become the universal symbol of comfort, love, and all things good and because of that we often pay more than we need to for it.
A coffee a day can really add up over time and so today I’ve teamed up with Melitta to show you how you can make the perfect cup of coffee from the comfort of your own home to enjoy whenever you like.

What’s Pour-Over Coffee?
The Pour-Over coffee method is the traditional coffee brewing method that was invented in Germany by Melitta Bentz in 1908. Back then coffee brewing methods left grounds in the coffee, and the resulting product was very bitter.
She was tired of drinking this bitter coffee and came up with the idea of pour-over coffee. She poked holes in the bottom of a brass cup and lined it with a sheet of blotting paper to filter the coffee, creating in this way the world’s first pour-over coffee maker.
The result was a rich flavourful coffee and her invention radically changed the way people brewed coffee. The pour-over method is still viewed by many coffee aficionados as one of the best way to make great coffee. Best of all it’s so simple you can do it yourself at home!

How to Make Pour-Over Coffee at Home
-
Place the filter inside the your pour-over coffee maker
Using the right filter makes all the difference. Melitta filters have micro-fine perforations to release the the full flavour of your coffee for a rich and smooth cup. The thick paper filters out contaminants and oils which lead to bitterness, while letting the flavours pass through.
-
Add fresh ground coffee
Melitta coffee uses premium high-altitude Arabica beans to deliver a rich, smooth cup consistently. Fire-roasted in small batches to the highest quality standards. My favourite is the Melitta traditional blend that comes pre-grounde to make it easy and convenient. It’s rich and full bodied, and creates a well balanced cup of coffee.
-
Pour-water off the boil to saturate the coffee
Boil the water in a kettle and let it sit about 30 seconds. Then add enough water to soak all of the coffee. Wait for the coffee bed to stop the initial swelling before adding more water.
And it’s as simple as that! Let your coffee drip away and in a few minutes you’ll have an amazing cup of coffee and be ready to drink and enjoy.
Moreover, cleaning up with Pour-Over coffeemakers is a breeze too. Melitta filters and coffee grinds are 100% compostable so you can just lift it out of the coffee maker and drop it in the compost bin.
My Melitta Heritage Series Pour-Over Coffeemaker
Okay, how cute is this Melitta vintage-inspired pink coffeemaker? Not only does it make a great coffee but it’s also a beautiful kitchen accessory that looks just great on my counter.
And if you’re not a fan of pink, Melitta also carries other colour variations along with more modern styles as well.
It makes about 3/3.5 cups of coffee which is perfect for both me and the hubby, plus one more to take to go for my commute to work.
It comes with a porcelain Pour-Over™ cone, a matching 20 oz. porcelain serving carafe and a porcelain lid for the carafe. But if you’re more into making single cup portions, Melitta has those options for you as well. See the whole line of Melitta coffee makers, coffee beans, and coffee filters here.
