5 Ways to Wear White After Labor Day

Tips and outfit ideas on how to wear white after labor day in the fall and winter

No white after labour day? Well that’s one fashion rule you can throw that rule out the window!

Wearing white is often associated with summer with its bright and airy feel. But I find it also pairs beautifully with the warm rich fall tones of the season, as well as complements darker colours to brighten up an outfit.

Wearing white during the fall and winter seasons seems to be a growing trend these last couple years. Whether it’s an all white look, or pairing your white pieces with more seasonally appropriate pieces, wearing white after labor day is no longer a fashion faux pas.

How to Wear White After Labor Day 5 Ways

1. Monochrome pairings

I love the look of monochrome outfits, especially when it comes to white. Something about pairing white with ivory and cream tones looks so chic and elevated.

For this fall look I’ve paired a white satin skirt with this ivory fuzzy cardigan from SHEIN for the monochrome part of my outfit. Then added some nude fall tones for that seasonal touch with tan ankle boots and a wool fedora.

2. Pairing white pieces with tan and neutrals

Wearing white jeans with tan and neutral colours are probably one of my favourite ways of wearing them in fall and winter. It’s a colour combination that you just can’t go wrong with.

For this fall look I’ve paired my favourite white jeans from EverNew with tan OTK boots from Goodnight Macaroon. These coveted boots have been on my wishlist for a number of months, and finally bought them during a recent 40% off sale! This leopard cardigan from SHEIN is another a new fall piece for my wardrobe. It has a lightweight knit and is perfect for layering in the fall when the weather can be temperamental.

I’ve finished off the look by accessorizing with a black wool fedora and my LV nano, which I recently put back into circulation after sitting in my closet for quite a number of years.

3. Wearing white pieces with deeper fall tones

A lot of “winter white outfits” have all white looks with a mix of light neutrals. But I wanted to show you that you can wear those white dresses which feel very summery, with dark, fall and winter colors as well.

Try pairing white with deep olive green, like I did here with this trench coat from EverNew, or with rich tones like navy, burgundy wine, or burnt orange to create a really gorgeous fall outfit that pops with a spot of white.

4. Style your white pieces with a leather jacket

Leather jackets are the great transition piece for fall and early winter. Not only is it a great for layering and adds a chic edge to any outfit, it complements white pieces like jeans, skirts, and dresses very well!

I transitioned this otherwise pretty summery outfit of my favourite white satin skirt and lace cami by simply adding this black leather moto jacket from Mackage. This leather jacket was a bit of an investment piece for me when I initially bought years ago, but being such a closet staple has made it worth it! Which really goes to show the timelessness of leather jackets.

5. Try to find balance in your outfit

Sometimes I find wearing whites in the cold weather season can look a little out of place. For example, wearing white jeans alone may feel like a little bit much, but pairing them with a long wool coat like this help tone down the brightness to help establish more balance in the look.
