Technically winter doesn’t start until December 21, but living in Toronto, Canada, we’re already bundling up as the temps begin to drop. Winterizing your wardrobe is a must here!
Like many of you, we’re are heading from the pleasant, crisp, colorful wonderland of fall into the time of nasty winds, chilling rain & snow, and grey skies also affectionately known as winter.
Just when I felt like my fall wardrobe was feeling complete, just like that it’s a brand new season with new dressing challenges.
But not all is lost, I’ll be incorporating as much of fall clothing for the winter with an updated twist. And in this post I’ll be sharing some of my favourite tips to day to help you stay cozy. So bring on the big chill!

Winterizing dresses with tights and stockings
I love wearing skirts and dresses so much more often than pants. So when winter rolls around, this can sometimes become a challenge.
Layering your skirts and dresses with tights under are a great way to combat the chill, glam up your look with added color and texture, or a even a combination of the two.
And if you’re looking for fun, unique tights, one of my favourite tights company is From Rachel. They make tights with designs like this OTK tight pattern (shown above), along with other sustainable apparel.
Some other ideas for wearing tights/stocking is layering a pair distressed jeans over fishnet tights for eye-catching detail at the rips. Or you can rock a bright-hued, patterned pair under a flowy maxi dress for just the right amount of pop (and warmth).
For extra warmth, you can even double up your tights to wear under skirts like Kerina has done in this reel below.
Layering with cardigans, wraps, and capes
Cardigan, wraps and capes are perfect warm over-layers. They are an easiest way to extend your short sleeve or 3/4-length tops into another season, particularly if you don’t want to stop wearing your favorite top simply because it’s gotten cooler.
Cold Weather Accessories
Hats, scarves and gloves aren’t just great fashion accessories, they’re practical for winterizing your wardrobe and adding warmth to any outfit.
PomPom toques (or beanies for my American friends) are a winter accessory must, and I’ve been loving this one (shown top right) from North of Alpine. Their winter hats are super soft and the fur pom pom is actually buttoned on so that it can be easily detached to wash the hat part.
Check out this a fun little winter outfit reel I posted on Instagram:

The perfect layering piece: long sleeve turtleneck
This white cotton long sleeve turtleneck (with 9000+ reviews) is probably one of my most worn layering pieces in the winter. It’s make a great base layer for added warmth without adding bulk to an outfit. They’re perfect for wearing under dresses and even under lightweight blouses.
Good Winter Boots
When it comes to winterizing your wardrobe, solid winter boots are a must. Nothing is worst that cold feet. If you’re in the market new winter boots, you’ll want to check out my Winter Boot Guide, with all the details on what to look for in your next winter boot.
