If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen in my recent reel that I got my first Chanel bag!
It’s the most I’ve ever spent on a bag, and I’m not saying this to brag in anyway. Having a Chanel bag has always been dream of mine. But I also wanted to make sure it was meaningful purchase and the time finally seemed right for it.
Why I decided on buying a Chanel Bag
2020 was a pretty big year for me (and a crazy one too!) The consistent work I’ve been putting in at both my personal and business goals had really started to pay off.
My blog had grown so much this past year – thanks to all of you who’ve come by and supported me! And I was in a good place, both personally and financially, so at the end of 2020 I thought it was time to finally treat myself!
But with our new home and all the costs that came along with it, I thought it would be best to postpone such a purchase until things had settled down a little more.
I had been browsing online for the possible bags I wanted and hadn’t really settled on a designer yet. But I thought if I was going to spend the money I wanted something that would also be a timeless piece.
Owning a Chanel bag is something I’ve wanted for a long time. It never seemed like the right time to spend that kind of money. But after thinking about some of the milestones I’ve reached in the past year, I decided it was time to reward myself and splurge on a Chanel bag!
Why I went with a vintage/preloved Chanel
I try to be a savvy shopper, so when it came to spending thousands on a bag (or anything at that), I wanted to make sure I did my research.
As I started to look into designer bags, I found that there were many vintage and preloved Chanel bag options out there. These bags were not only more affordable, but also a sustainable option as well.
Some of the reputable online sites for prevloved/vintage Chanel bags I came across were:
- Fashionphile – many new bags here!
- Vestiaire Collective
- The Real Real – where I ended up buying my bag!
- The Revente
I also found that vintage Chanel bags held their value very well since the most depreciation comes from the initial purchase.
And with prices going up every year and the resale market in high demand, buying a vintage Chanel bag could even be an investment.
My Vintage Chanel Wallet On Chain
There are a number of Chanel bag sizes, and I knew that I wanted something small and compact.
During my searches looked at saw several bag styles like the mini flap bag, the small boy and small flap, but I found that I liked the sleek design of the wallet on chain styles best.
Typically I don’t carry much other than my phone, a couple cards, and a lipstick on most days. So a smaller bag made more sense for me. I wanted something compact for just those items, as well as a bag that could easily convert into a going out purse or clutch.
While I was just browsing on therealreal.com when I came across this vintage Chanel WOC, and I fell in love with it right away.
It’s a vintage Chanel Mademoiselle wallet on chain from the 2016 Collection by Karl Lagerfeld.
This wallet on chain style has a bordered frame with quilted exterior for a more of a unique look to it. The CC hardware is a little bolder than the classic quilted and chevron WOC and I thought gave off a bit more glam vibe which it would be great for evening outfits as well.
The condition of my bag was marked as very good and I would agree that this was accurate. There were some surface scratches that you can see under certain lighting and some indentations left from the zipper on the inside flap. But the interior fabric was immaculate and overall the bag was in used but very good condition.
I have to say I’m very happy with my purchase. I’m so in love with the style of the bag and finding it to be very versatile and wearable. I hope it’s only going to be the first of my future Chanel collection!
My only gripe was that I had to pay taxes and duties on it, which was a fair amount, but overall I’m happy with the purchase of it.
