How to Treat Dry Skin, Hands, Body & Hair
The last few years I’ve been plagued with dryness: dry skin, dry hands, dry hair, you just go ahead and name it. In my teen years I would always complain about my oily skin, but now it seems my body has done a full 180 turn. I’m sure partially this due growing up, and other part is I’ve moved to a much drier climate. It’s been especially tough to get use to, and I feel like I’m constantly on a search for good moisturizers for my dry skin and hair problems. And since I know I’m not the only one suffering from dry skin, hands and hair, this edition of my beauty round up is for all you dryness sufferers like me. I’ve gathered my favourite products that target dry skin on the face, hands and body, as well the products for your dry hair as well!
Best Skincare Products for Dry Skin – Face
VDL Beauty Moisturizer
Lightweight Moisturizer for Dry Skin
VDL cosmetics is a K-beauty brand that I was recently introduced to and really fallen in love with. The VDL Beauty Moisturizer is a great moisturizer especially for dry skin. It’s super hydrating, with a bouncy light texture that moisturizes without being heavy. It also contains active ingredients including plum extract that act as an antioxidant, and hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and jojoba seed oil which help to hydrate the skin. It works wonders on my dry skin, keeps me hydrated all day long, and wears well under my makeup.
Pour Moi Mountain Day Cream
Creamy, Long Lasting Moisturizer for Extremely Dry Skin
Pour Moi has been the brand for my all-season go-to day moisturizers, and if you want to learn more about each of their unique line of moisturizers click here. Recently they’ve come out with their Mountain Day Cream which is specially made to replenish and protect your skin in elevated places where UV radiation levels are up and air pressure is low, causing water to escape much faster from skin than in any other climate. This cream is ultra rich and creamy and though I’m not in a mountain climate per se, it works as a great moisturizer extremely dry skin. During the winter season, the climate where I live is often very cold and dry and I am often outdoors, and it does an amazing job of protecting my skin and keeping it hydrated for hours on end both indoors and outdoors.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost SPF 30
Hydrating Sunscreen with Hyaluronic Acid and SPF for Dry Skin
The best thing about the Neutrogena Hydro Boost SPF 30 Sunscreen is it feels nothing like sunscreen! I really have a love-hate relationship with sunscreen and this one takes all the hate out of the relationship. It has a water-gel formula with hyaluronic acid (super effective ingredient for hydrating skin) to give it more of a lotion feel than a traditional sunscreen feel. I also find a lot of sunscreens tend to dry out skin, but this one keeps me hydrated without feeling greasy. It even layers under makeup well, so you’ll forget you’re even wearing sunscreen!
This Works Morning Expert Hyaluronic Serum Vitamin C Serum with a Boost of Hyaluronic Acid
This Works are probably best known for their sleep aid & skincare products, but recently came out with a morning skincare line to help your skin wake up right. The This Works Morning Expert Hyaluronic Serum is a hydrating and plumping serum that helps your skin wake up and replenish loss water content from your overnight sleep. It also contains Vitamin C and 2% hyaluronic acid (hence it’s name) to brighten and provide an intense dose of moisture to your skin to restore glow, improve texture and support collagen production to help find signs of aging to leave skin looking radiant and revived.
Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Cleanser
Gentle Cream Cleanser for Dry Skin
When you already have dry skin, the last thing you want to do is to strip your skin of what remaining moisture it has by using the wrong cleanser. The Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Cleanser is a gentle cream cleanser made for dry skin that removes all your makeup wonderfully while actively nourishing the skin. The key ingredient is the BioReplenish Complex, and that combined with phytoactives from Coconut and Murumuru Seed Butter, help protect barrier lipids and preserve the skin’s natural resilience for a smoother feel after cleansing.
Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance
Hydrating Facial Moisturizer for Dry Skin
A great pairing with the Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Cleanser is the Intensive Moisture Balance, which is part of the same line. It Also contains the BioReplenish Complex to nourish skin and restore the lipid balance to your skin. I’d say this moisturizer is about a medium weight moisturizer. It has smooth texture, that’s fast absorbing and does a great job keep my skin hydrated on a balanced level.
Givenchy Le Rouge Perfecto Beautifying Lip Balm
Moisturizing Lip Balm with Tint for Dry Lips
Lips often get forgotten about when it comes to dry skin, but I’m sure even more of us suffer from chapped lips than dry skin in general. I’ve been loving the Givenchy Le Rouge Perfecto Beautifying Lip Balm, it’s a three-in-one lip balm that plumps, moisturizes, and gives a boost of colour all together, so you really don’t carry a ton of other lip products in your purse. I love how supple and plump my lips look after using it, plus the pink leather case is just adorable!
Best Skincare Products for Dry Hands
I had to create a special section for dry hands, because sometimes they just need a little more TLC than the rest of your body. Suffering from dry hands is pretty common and usually due to environmental causes like over washing and exposure. And because we use our hands so much, it’s especially irritating to have dry skin on your hands. These are some of my favourite hand moisturizers that I’ve found to be most effective in hydrating my hands and keeping them that way!
Rocky Mountain Omega 3 Hand Cream (Vanilla Coconut)
Natural Hand Cream for Dry Hands
The Rocky Mountain Omega 3 Hand Cream is all natural and ultra hydrating hand cream, not to mention delicious smelling too. It’s packed with great ingredients to deeply hydrate the driest of hands including flax seed oil and organic shea butter. It has a simple, yet effective ten ingredient recipe also includes beeswax to protect and seal in moisture. I also love how it absorbs quickly so you can go back to using your hands in just a few minutes.
L’Occitane She Butter Hand Cream
Moisturizing Hand Treatment for Dry Hands
I’ve loved and used the L’Occitane She Butter Hand Cream to treat my dry hands for practically forever! It comes in a handy, purse-friendly, little squeeze out tube that you can carry anywhere which makes it easier to apply when you need it. It’s enriched with 20% nourishing shea butter that makes it ultra buttery and hydrating for dry skin and perfect for massaging into your cuticles. It even comes in a variety of wonderful scents as well!
Weleda Primrose Age Revitalizing Hand Cream
Natural Hand Treatment for Dry Hands
The Weleda Primrose Age Revitalizing Hand Cream is another great natural hand moisturizer that works amazing on dry skin, plus it has anti-aging fighting properties too! It has a subtle fragrance of primrose flowers and a lightweight formula that hydrates skin while returning elasticity to the skin. I love how it absorbs quickly and and doesn’t leave your hands feeling sticky or unusable. Bonus, it’s vegan and free from synthetic preservatives, fragrances, colorants, free of raw materials derived from mineral oil.
Body Moisturizers for Dry Skin
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Cream
Moisturizing Gel with Hylauronic Acid for Dry Skin
I recently discovered the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Cream, and I’m in love with it. Neutrogena has a whole line of Hydroboost Water Gel products from sunscreen (mentioned above) to body creams and I’m obsessed with it. It hydrates skin with hyaluronic acid that acts as a sponge for dry skin cells, and is so gel formula is lightweight and absorbs instantly while hydrating like a heavy cream for hours. It leaves my skin looking smooth, supple and well moisturized. And the formula is so unique, you simply must try!
Bio Oil Dry Skin Gel
Moisturizing Treatment for Dry Skin
The Bio Oil Dry Skin Gel is another unique gel formula moisturizer, except this one uses oil instead of water. It’s one of my favourites and if you want to learn more about it I have a whole post on it here. But seriously, this is great for the driest, cracked skin. I used this for 14 days straight on my cracked heels and even posted a review on it here.
Origins Precipitation Continuous Moisture Recovery for Body
Body Moisturizer for Dry Skin
The Origins Precipitation Continuous Moisture Recovery for Body is refreshing body moisturizer with the key ingredients of sunflower & soybean oils. It’s a rich body balm that provides great overall moisture and helps refresh, renew and replenish dull dry body skin. I love that it leaves no greasy residue and has a light fresh scent that invigorates your senses.
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash
Gentle Body Wash for Dry Skin
We often don’t realize is that using the wrong soaps can really dry out the skin. Cleansers with glycerine and traditional soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils and leave it unnecessarily dry. The Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash is a great gentle body cleanser that nourishes for skin to leave it soft and smooth after you shower. This body wash contains nutrient-rich yogurt and oatmeal nourish skin during the shower. I use this daily and I love how it’s soap and dye-free which makes it extra gentle. Bonus: it has a delightful vanilla and oat scent.
Laline Dead Sea Minerals Salt Scrub with Argan Oil
All Over Body Scrub for Dry Skin
When it comes to dry skin, sometimes you just need a good scrub to slough away dull, dry skin to reveal softer, smoother skin. Now a scrub shouldn’t replace your regular body wash, but you’re missing out on some serious skin TLC if you skip it all together. The Laline Dead Sea Minerals Salt Scrub with Argan Oil is my all time favourites hands down. It contains a blend of Dead Sea mineral salts and Argan Oil, as well as Calendula, Rosehip and Avocado Oils that gently scrub away excess dry skin, dirt and impurities while leaving your skin hydrated and soft. My skin always feels brand new once I’m done with this scrub!
Products for Dry Hair
Dryness isn’t just limited to skin, dry hair is another thing that I sure most of us have suffered from at one point or another, whether it’s too much fun in the sun, over-styling with heat tools, or over-processing with hair colour. For me, it’s the heat tools, and since I’m not willing to give them up, I have to give my hair a little extra love to make sure my strands stay healthy and hydrated. So here are a few of my favourite products for dry hair.
Shea Moisture Hydrate + Repair Shampoo and Conditioner
Natural Products for Dry Hair
I think the name says it all! The Shea Moisture Hydrate + Repair Shampoo and Conditioner is great for dry hair with ultra hydrating ingredients like certified organic Shea Butter, ultra-moisturizing Manuka Honey and Yogurt. The shampoo is Sulfate-free and gently cleanses your locks while moisturizing them with proteins and shine enhancing nutrients. My hair feels smoother and softer after using it, even after just one use. I’m also really fond this brand and their commitment to make natural products, as well as being cruelty-free. It’s also at a really great price point which makes me feel less guilty for using a ton of it on my hair. Plus, like all Shea Moisture products it smells just ah-mazing! Here’s also another great Shea Moisture line that’s also great for dry, damaged hair, which I review and wrote about here.
KMS Moist Repair Shampoo and Conditioner
Professional Products for Dry Hair
The KMS Moist Repair Shampoo and Conditioner is another great product line for dry and damaged hair. It’s both gentle and hydrating, and I love how leaves my hair feeling weightless when I use it. It aims to repair damage and reduce breakage, as well as to help restore the hair’s natural protective coating. After using it my hair always feels smooth and bouncy with a great shine.
Alterna Hair Care Caviar Anti-Aging® Leave-In Conditioning Milk
Leave-in Treatment for Dry and Damaged Hair
If your hair is really dry, you’ll probably need an additional leave-in conditioner to give it some extra hydration before your blow dry and style it. The Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging® Leave-In Conditioning Milk is my go-to leave-in conditioner. It’s an ultra-hydrating, luxe, leave-in conditioner that absorbs instantly and hydrates deeply to treat dry and brittle hair. After I blow dry my hair, I always notice a huge difference in my hair from when I use it and I don’t. The ultra nourishing formula leaves my dry hair soft, silky and smooth. And Alterna Haircare also has a great hydrating shampoo and conditioner form the same line which I review here.
Briogeo B. Well Organic + Cold-Pressed 100% Castor Oil
Multi-Purpose Treatment for Dry Hair and Skin
The B. Well Organic + Cold-Pressed 100% Castor Oil is a multi purpose oil that can be used on hair, eye brows, eyelashes and skin to help moisturize and hydrate dry skin and hair. I personally love using it on the ends of my dry hair as it helps hydrate them as well as calm my frizzies. This product is 100% organic, naturally cold-pressed castor oil that is rich in humectants, Vitamin E and Omega fatty acids. All these ingredients help to nourish the hair follicles and skin and encourages healthy, lustrous hair, and hydrated, glowing skin.
