Summer is here! Which mean it’s time to refresh your beauty routine. If you live in a seasonal climate like me, you know that the beauty products that work in the winter, are not going to cut it in the summer time. So I’ve rounded up all the makeup, skincare and haircare that that I’m using to take on the summer season.
Summer Makeup Favourites
VDL x PANTONE Expert Color Eye Book 6.4 No.8
I’ve been living for this palette! The VDL x PANTONE Expert Color Eye Book 6.4 No.8 is a collaboration between VDL beauty and Pantone, featuring this year’s colour of the year, Living Coral. This eye palette really does it all, whether you want a create a smokey eye, or natural no-makeup makeup look. This VDL x Pantone eye palette has a range of shades in both shimmery and matte that makes it so versatile, you can even use it as blush, highlighter and contour, so talk about a multi-task! The texture of the shadows are great too, with good pigment and blends beautifully as well. As part of the Living Coral collection, VDL also made brushes to go along with the collection (bottom right) and they’re just lovely too. Aside from being super cute, they’re made with synthetic fibres that are oh-so-soft and great for not eating up a lot of product.
Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Foundation SPF 50+
The summer heat and humidity often has me wanting to skip foundation all together. But this Suwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Foundation is perfect for creating a light to full coverage flawless complexion without that heavy foundation feeling. It has a unique cushion dispenser that allows you to get the product on the sponge evenly and lightly. And the compact is so handy to carry with you anywhere, whether you’re flying high or relaxing at the beach and need a touch up. Like most K-beauty, it has some built in skincare into it as well, with a moisturizing blend of apricot seed and Korean herbs. I also love the lasting power of the Sulwhasoo Cushion Foundation, which looks good all day long (12+ hours) and has the bonus of SPF 50 to protect your skin from the sun’s rays too.
Armani Beauty Lip Magnet Freeze
This past year, I’ve been obsessed over anything Armani Beauty, particularly their skin makeup and lipsticks. They’ve just come out with their Lip Freeze Collection and it’s absolutely dreamy! With a luxe creamy texture and pastel matte pigments, it’s a comfortable wearing ultra-chic matte second-skin finish. This collection is limited edition and features 6 sorbet colours for this summer.
Artistry Studio Cheek & Lip Duo
Since I’m always on the go, I’m all about products that multitask. The Artistry Studio Cheek & Lip Duo is a dual toned lip and cheek colour so that it’s easy to create a quick, perfectly coordinated look with one shade on lips and the other on cheeks, mix them together, or just pick one, it’s up to you. The formula is easy to apply and you can use it blended straight from the tube, or with your finger or a brush. (Fingers are my preference, I find it helps to warm up the product and blend with control.) It has a natural matte finish and love how it’s so tiny that you can easily carry it in a clutch for a quick touch up of colour for your lips and cheek.
Givenchy Prisme Libre Mat-Finish Loose Powder Beauty Multi (Couture Edition)
This loose powder is a pure pore-perfection magic. The 4 colour combination powder evens out skin tone, boosts radiance, and keeps shine under control. It almost has a filter-effect when you apply it, I know it sounds too good to be true, but it truly makes imperfections disappear, skin look more even, and helps to set your makeup all day long. This happens to be the Couture Limited Edition of Prisme Libre which features this edgy colourful tiger pattern, but they also have this powder around as part of their staple collection as well.
Nude by Nature Loose Powder Foundation
This is a natural mineral foundation that really performs! I love how the coverage is buildable, and effectively evens out complexion, covers redness and pigmentation. I was a little skeptical on it at first, but after a few uses I quickly became a fan. The Nude by Nature Loose Powder Foundation also contains natural skin nourishing ingredients like Australian Kakadu Plum, known for its abundant Vitamin C content, Jojoba Esters to nourish the skin and Kaolin Clay for a radiant flawless complexion. Best of all, the container that holds it is so well designed, the mesh shifter allows you to get the perfect amount on your brush every time, and the lid has a stopper on it so it doesn’t spill everywhere!
Hard Candy Oopsy Proof Makeup Eraser
This is a handy little pen is a stroke of genius! The Hard Candy Oopsy Proof Makeup Eraser is perfect for correcting any kind of makeup mistakes, particularly when you’re working on getting that perfect cat-eye winged liner. It has an ultra precise tip to correct the finest of errors for your eyeliner, but it can also be used to clean up lipstick, or smudged mascara as well.
Summer Skincare Favourites
Nivea Oil Infused Lotion – Cherry Blossom
Dry skin woes seem to plague me year around, so I’m always looking for something to keep my skin soft and hydrated. The Nivea Oil Infused Lotion deeply moisturizes skin without being greasy and I love how it absorbs quickly so I can be dressed and out the door in a flash. It has a light scent which is great for the summer when I like to avoid heavy perfumes.
Aveeno Positively Radiant Max Glow Micellar Gel Cleanser
The Aveeno Positively Radiant Max Glow Micellar Gel Cleanser is a great gentle cleanser that utilizes micellar technology to draw out impurities and clean skin. It’s infused with moisture-rich soy and kiwi complex, leaving skin feeling hydrated, soft and dewy. I love how it doesn’t over dry my skin when cleansing. After use, I find my skin is smoother, less oily in my problem areas, and remains hydrated in the dry areas.
Henne Organics Lip Balm
I always forget my lips when it comes to skincare, and I know I shouldn’t. This organic lip balm from Henne Organics is both effective and luxurious. It goes on super smooth and leave my lips hydrated for hours. I love using it before I apply my lipstick or any other lip products to help keep my lips soft and supple all day. The brand is Swedish inspired and American made and like no lip balm I’ve ever used before!
Kosmea Rose Hip Oil
Kosmea is a natural skincare brand from Australia that I’ve recently been introduced to and loving. The Rose Hip facial oil they have is one of the best and packed with fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants and do an amazing job calming my skin when it’s irritated. The Kosmea Rose Hip Oil is another great multi-tasker (see a theme here?) as well, and can be used for skin conditions like diaper rash, breakouts, and sun damage too! The oil is a real treat for my skin and absorbs easily and quickly, and over time my skin looks more radiant with use.
Bioderm Sensibio AR CC Cream 30
I’ve been using the Bioderma Sensibio AR CC Cream 30 daily since I got it and love it. Part of a line that reduces redness, this CC cream works to even out the complexion and balance redness, perfect your skin, and enhances radiance. I find just a small amount goes a long way, and it provides enough coverage for me to just use it on its own on days where I don’t need to wear a lot of makeup. It’s a perfect product if you’re dealing with redness or irritation, as it contains active ingredients gingko biloba, green tea and soy to help calm the skin.
Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Cream to Foam Facial Cleanser
The Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Cream to Foam Facial Cleanser is my go-to for the days I’m wearing heavy makeup. It takes off the most stubborn makeup amazingly while being gentle too! The cream to foam texture that feels ultra luxe, and just melts away the dirt and makeup on the skin and then bubbles up to wash away easily. It also smells refreshing and leaves my skin squeaky clean!

OGX Green Tea Fitness Dry Shampoo Foam
Gym hair, don’t care! Sometimes you just don’t have time to shower after a workout and this product is perfect for that! The OGX Green Tea Fitness Dry Shampoo Foam is a hair foam that you massage into hair to absorb excess oil and it really works!I really like the foam formula and find it so much more effective than the traditional aerosol sprays that you usually find. The result is soft clean feeling hair, with just the right amount of texture so you can quickly style your hair and be on with you day.
Cake The Thick Trick
If you’re have fine hair like me, I’m sure you’re always on for hair products that help hold your hair without weighing it down, and this is one of them! Cake’s The Thick Trick is a volumizing foam styler lifts and plumps hair, all with feather-light fullness. I usually apply it to my wet hair, and after my blow dry my hair, my hair is just full of volume. Also love how this product doesn’t have any sticky or stiff texture to it, and just helps my hair look lusher and thicker without the a big fuss.
Toppik Hair Building Fibres
When looking for a quick fix for fuller hair, Toppik is my go to! Sometimes when I pull my hair up in a pony tail or bun there are areas along my hair line that just don’t look as full or even. Toppik Hair Building Fibers are made of coloured keratin protein that blend seamlessly with existing hair strands to instantly create the look of naturally thick, full hair, and it’s really quite amazing! It’s even good for covering parts and touching up roots between hair appointments. This product is really like makeup for your hair and probably one of the best kept secrets for instantly fuller look hair.
Alterna Haircare Caviar Anti-Aging® Replenishing Moisture CC Cream
I personally love this Caviar line, and have included both the shampoo and conditioner in one of my previous beauty roundups here. I recently started using this 10 in 1 CC cream and have been loving it too. It’s a leave-in hair treatment and styling cream that provides moisture, shine, smoothness, softness, anti-breakage, heat protection, light hold, UV protection, manageability, and strength. My hair feels softer, smoother and more hydrated with use and it’s great that it’s also paraben and sulfate free as well.
Design.ME Gloss.ME
The Design.Me Gloss.Me is a product that gives your hair instant shine and stops the frizzies, which is something I seem to get every summer with the humid weather here. Gloss.ME has a unique formula of oils and proteins, including cannabis sativa seed oil (such a hot ingredient right now!), that are rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins A, C and E that make hair stronger, fuller and healthier. Since my hair is on the finer side, I usually use this on my dry ends and it does an amazing job making them look soft and healthy again.
