Giving my summer skincare routine refresh with Dermalogica
With the change in seasons, comes a change in skincare. This is especially true if you in a seasonal climate like me where winters are cold and dry while summers are hot and humid.
My summer skincare routine needed a complete overhaul this year. With the seasonal changes were effecting my skin, and with the added stress of everything going on in the world right now, my skin was breaking out, acting up, and not looking the best.
So to help with skincare concerns, I did a virtual consultation with one of Dermalogica’s skincare therapists to determine what was going on with my skin, along with helping with solutions for my skincare woes.
During my consultation, I did a virtual video call with Maicy, one of their skincare therapists. I received face mapping skin analysis, had a chance to discussed my skin health issues and goals, and as well as new summer skincare routine based on my unique skincare needs.

My Skin Concerns and Issues
Coming into the summer season, I found the texture of my skin was looking tired, dull, and lacklustre.
I was getting deep singular type breakouts that were leaving scars in my chin and neck area. As well as with some congestion with black heads around my nose.
Overall my skin, wasn’t looking the healthiest and needed a some TLC to bring it back to it’s normal happy state.
Face Mapping Analysis
Below is the diagram from my face mapping analysis showing where my skincare concerns were focused.
I love how this visually shows my problem areas so it’s easy to understand how to treat the various skincare issues I was having.
My New Summer Skincare Routine
During my consultation, Maicy recommended several products to update my summer skincare routine to help me target my skincare concerns and achieve my skin goals of healthier skin with a clearer and brighter appearance.
1. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
During the colder months, my skin is fairly dry and I usually use cream cleanser or even just the Daily Microfoliant alone to wash my skin.
With the warmer weather and my skin producing more oil, the first step was to change up my cleansing routine to the Special Cleansing Gel.
Special Cleansing Gel is a gentle foaming cleanser that lathers to removes impurities, without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture balance.
I love how the Special Cleansing Gel makes my skin feel clean without the dry tight feeling. I find many cleansers often strip my skin of moisture, but this one was a perfect balance, leaving my skin feeling soft and smooth, while thoroughly cleansing it.
2. Age Bright Spot Fader
To help deal with the breakouts I having, the Age Bright Spot Fader was recommend to me as a treatment for them.
It’s a handy two-in-one spot treatment helps reduce the appearance of breakouts and also post-breakout marks as well.
The Age Bright Spot Fader contains Salicylic Acid to clear breakouts and along with Niacinamide and Hexylresorcinol help fade post-breakout marks and improve uneven skin tone. Also, it contains the AGE Bright Complex that helps to reduce sings of skin aging and prevent over-drying.
I love how handy this brightening spot treatment is. It’s in a pen-like tube that I can easily keep at my desk, and I just need to apply it to my skin as soon as I notice a pimple coming up.
The Age Bright Spot Fader helps to get rid of breakouts quickly and prevent dark marks from forming, which is an issue for me especially in the summer time.
In addition, I have to say it’s such a great product for adult breakouts because it helps to treat acne while containing anti-aging ingredients as well.
3. Blackhead Clearing Fizz Mask
Another skincare issue that was bothering me was the seemingly multiplying blackheads I was getting on on my nose area. And for this I was recommended the Blackhead Clearing Fizz Mask.
The Blackhead Clearing Fizz Mask has a unique fizzing foam formula helps to clean pores and reduce the appearance of blackheads. When applied, it foams up to open pores and decongest skin gently and effectively.
After using this mask, I felt like my pores looked smaller and my blackheads started to disappear after a few uses!
I often find myself lazy to use masks, but this one is so much fun with its foamy fizziness, I always look forward to my bi-weekly treatment of it!
4, Sound Sleep Cocoon Moisturizer
As the weather was warming up, I started to skip my moisturizer completely at night time. But during my skincare consultation, I learned that moisturizing was an important step to seal in your serums.
The Sound Sleep Cocoon was recommended for me and it’s a lightweight gel-cream with active ingredients to hydrate, brighten and revitalize skin at night time.
It also has a very light lavender scent that helps you to relax and promote better sleep for more restorative skin regeneration.
This has quickly become one of my all time favourite moisturizers. I love the light gel texture to it and leaves my skin soft and hydrated without feeling heavy or oily.
6. Retinol Clearing Oil
Retinol is an ingredient I have been curious about for awhile, but I’ve unfortunately had some poor experiences with it where my skin was left peeling for days. But when I heard that Dermalogica had launched their new Retinol Clearing Oil I was really interested in trying it out.
The Retinol Clearing Oil combines Salicylic Acid and Retinol to help treat both signs of aging as well as breakouts in one skin soothing formula. And because it’s in an dry-oil based formula it’s much more gentle than traditional retinols.
I’ve been using this nightly in my summer skincare routine and feel like my skin is clearer, more vibrant and overall healthier. Plus, none of the traditional side effects of retinol that made me so fearful of it.
7. Dermalogica MultiVitamin Recovery Masque
To help with overall skin health, I was recommended the Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque.
The MultiVitamin Recovery Masque is a nutrient rich mask to help return the glow to the dull lacklustre skin I had been experiencing.
It’s packed with vitamins A, C and E, and Linoleic Acid to repair skin, antioxidants to combat free-radical damage, and Pro-Vitamin B5 and utrient-rich Algae Extract to help moisturize any soften skin.
After using this mask, my skin always has the most amazing glow. Even after the first use, I noticed how much more supple and healthy my skin looked. It’s such a great treat for my skin.
Another tip I learned is that it can also be used as an overnight mask for an extra dose of goodness for your skin.
8. Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense SPF 30
Sunscreen is a must year round, but especially in the summer time when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
The Invisible Physical Defense SPF 30 is a new sunscreen from Dermalogica that’s invisible, weightless and blends beautifully into skin.
My old favourite is the Prisma Protect sunscreen, but with the warmer weather, I found this one to more suitable now that my skin is producing more oil.
I love that it’s a physical sunscreen that reflects the sun rays and provides blue light protection. Plus, it blends seamlessly, unlike traditional sunblocks it doesn’t leave that unsightly white cast.
Since my I’ve updated my summer skincare routine with Dermalogica, I’ve been using these products for the last few weeks. I’m happy to say my skin is looking brighter, clearer and just overall happier.
It was so helpful to have a skincare professional pinpoint the issues I was having and recommend the right products to help resolve them. In addition, I had many takeaways and tips on how to apply my skincare, as well as understanding how to better care for my skin.
If you’re looking to update your skincare routine for this season, I’d highly recommend to get a skincare consultation with Dermalogica to help you find the right products for your skin!
