Summer skincare tips to get your whole body looking and feeling your best for the warm weather season.
Yay, it’s finally May! The weather is warming up and it’s time to trade in those sweater and jeans for sun dresses and shorts! But after hiding for so long, is your skin ready for summer?
I’ll be honest, I haven’t shaved my legs in months and after a long Canadian winter, my skin isn’t looking its glowiest. So this past weekend I’ve indulge in little self care to get my skin ready for summer, shorts and sundresses!
Since you might be in the same boat, I’m sharing my get ready for summer beauty routine with you so you can feel your best in those cute tank tops and shorts when the warm weather comes!
7 Summer Skincare Tips to Get Your Skin Ready For Summer
Summer Skincare Tip #1
Full Body Exfoliation
It’s time to shed that winter coat quite literally and give yourself a full body scrub down. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin that will dull your complexion.
There’s no better way to reveal soft supple skin than a full body scrub. Not only will your your skin be softer and smoother, you’ll look and feel a whole lot fresher.
Tip: gentle scrub in a face and body in a circular motion. Try to exfoliate at least once a week to keep skin in tip top condition. Exfoliating also helps to prevent pores from being blocked as you start sweating more when the temperatures start rising.
I love the Frank Body Coconut Coffee Scrub. It’s all natural, smells like a vacation and budget friendly which makes it an easy favourite for me!

Moisturize
Now that you have revealed that gorgeous fresh skin, keep it that way by moisturizing regularly. Sun exposure can dry your skin out so making sure your hydrate after you shower will help keep your skin soft, smooth, and glowing.
Moisturizers with hyaluronic acid are a great option to keep your skin hydrated without feeling oily. Hyaluronic acid is a water attracting molecule that will help hold moisture to your skin.
One of my favourites is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Body Gel Cream. It has a great cooling hydrating feel to it, absorbs quickly for a non greasy feel.

Sun Protection with SPF
If you’re going to be spending time in the sun, suncreen is a must! Sunburnt skin is not sexy look for anyone. And if you want to keep wrinkles at bay as well, you better be wearing sunscreen.
Sunscreen has come a long way since that chalky white stuff that we had when we were kids. And now there are many amazing formulas are easy to apply such as spray on formulas, as well as formulas that don’t feel like sunscreen at all.

Fake a Faux Glow
Want a that sun kissed look without damaging your skin? Well self-tanner is the way to go. And like sunscreen, they’ve come a long way from that smelly stuff that turns you orange and stains your hands.
If you’re on the pale side, there are some great gradual self tanners that help you build a tan over a few days, so you don’t suddenly look overly tanned. My fave is the St. Tropez Watermelon Infusion Lotion which gives you a beautiful natural tan while smelling delicious!
I also love this foam formula from Bondi Sands (that you apply with a mitt) for a more instant glow. And yes, applying with a mitt is important if you want to get a smooth even tan.

Lighten Up on the Makeup
Summer is the perfect time to opt for low-key makeup. Simplify your makeup routine with an all functional BB or CC cream like the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+. It’s an all in one that smooth skin’s texture, corrects the look of skin for an even complexion, hydrates, and perfects to hide imperfections.

Summer Skincare Tip #6
Get Sandal Ready Feet with Pedicure
Of course the easiest way to get a pedicure is to visit the nail salon. But if that’s not in your budget or if things are still in lockdown like they are here in Toronto, a DIY home pedi kit is the next best thing!
You can get a full pedicure kit for about $12 on Amazon. And with a little buff and polish your toes will be ready to show off in sandals.
Summer Body Care Tip #7
Hair Removal
Nobody likes razor-burn, so make sure you change your blades out for new ones after a few uses. It’s also a good idea to keep your shave with shaving cream or use lukewarm water and finish with a cool, refreshing skin to close the pores.
However my preferred method of hair removal would be laser hair removal. It’s a more permanent solution and though it costs a more than your standard razor, it also saves the fuss of having to constantly shave.
Laser hair removal usually takes about 6-8 sessions to complete with about 6 weeks in between each session. There is some pain involved, but any not more than waxing.
There’s also the option of buying a device and having doing it yourself. I haven’t tried this personally, but I’ve heard that the results are great as well!
