Big thanks to Ten Thousand Villages for sponsoring this giveaway!
Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want.” -Anna Lappé
Even small, everyday purchases like as coffee, tea, breakfast cereal, and bread are a vote for something. How you shop and companies you support are a vote for what you believe in and the kind of place you want the world to be. For example, favouring organic produce is a vote for environmental sustainability and purchasing fair trade products is a vote for human rights. We have a great deal of power in our pockets and the choices we make can help (or hurt) other people.
As one of the oldest and largest Fair Trade organizations in North America, Ten Thousand Villages is more than a store, it’s a place where you can explore and connect with your global village. They sell artisan-crafted personal accessories, home decor and gift items from all over the world. Their goal is to creating opportunities for artisans in developing countries and earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term, fair trading relationships. And with Christmas just around the corner, what could be better than to shop your values and give gifts with meaning? They also have the best selection of cute Christmas ornaments hands down! So make sure you drop by their store on Bloor or Danforth, and until December 31st 2017, they also have a pop up store in Oshawa!
Ten Thousand Villages works with hundreds of artisan partners around the world with a mission to empower women, build relationships, preserve cultural arts, sustain livelihoods, and show dignity. So not only will you find products that are truly unique, you can shop in good conscience knowing that the artisans who have made them have received respect, dignity and hope from earning fair value for their hard work. That’s why I’m super excited today to announce that I’ll be collaborating with them to do a giveaway for these artisan made earrings and necklace.
