It’s been awhile since I’ve travelled abroad, and quite frankly it will likely still be awhile before I get on a plane. But that doesn’t mean I can’t do a staycation!
Like a vacation, a staycation is a great alternative to a vacation experience without having to venture too far from home. You can choose to stay in your own city, or just visit a near by one. The goal is to take a break from your everyday life.
I recently had the got to stay at the Gladstone House Boutique Hotel as part of a collaboration with Mateus Rose, Graydon Skincare, and LazyPants. Check out the video and post here!
Toronto Staycation at Gladstone House
Gladstone House is a boutique art hotel in Toronto that was recently renovated. It’s located in the creative neighbourhood of West Queen West, where it’s surrounded by shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
Staying true to its Toronto roots, when Gladstone House was renovated they incorporated artwork from local Toronto artists into their unique decor that runs throughout the hotel.
Our Room at Gladstone House
The room we stayed in had the most gorgeous tapestry hanging from the ceiling of above the bed (photo above).
This piece depicts the sunset in the middle of the lake in Algonquin park. It was such a stunning and intricate piece with difference textures. And even more amazing was to gaze up at from the bed to admire it!
I also loved the vanity and bathroom amenities which were stocked with skincare and body care from Graydon skincare.
We spent 2 nights at the Gladstone House which was the perfect amount of time to unwind and relax.
During this time we had been in the midst of our home renovations so this Toronto staycation was the perfect way to forget about the mess we had a home.
We’re so happy that we were able to bring our dog Charlie as well. They’re a dog friendly hotel and this was her first trip away from home!
The first night we decided to stay in and have a super lazy evening. We took nap as soon as we checked in. Then ordered dinner from their restaurant and ate it in bed while watching tv. Pure gluttony, but it was just the kind of thing we needed to recharge.
The finished the night in doing some face masks (And yes! My hubby loves masks too!) and enjoying some of the skincare goodies from Graydon that they stock their bathrooms with.
We started the next day off with a morning doggy walk in the neighbourhood and picked up some coffees on the way back to enjoy back in our room.
The rest of our morning was pretty laid back, I did some reading and play with Charlie a little, while my husband caught upon emails, and we all just hung out in bed.
Around lunch time, me and hubby decided to head out for a walk around the Ossington area and find a bite to eat.
We ended up going to Cafe Neon, and old favourite that we haven’t to been ages. It was just a delicious as we remembered. He got the breakfast burrito, and I had a breakfast bagel. And of course we had to get some of their butter croissants which are pure buttery flakey goodness.
After lunch, we walked around the Queen West and Ossington area to check out some shops and see what’s new in the neighbourhood before heading back to the hotel to relax for a bit.
On our second evening, we decided to go down to the hotel bar to grab some appies and drinks and to hang out there for a bit.
After went to enjoy some of the other areas of the hotel. And played a game of chess in the library and pool in the games room, before before retiring back to our room.
We got to sleep in the next day which was so nice! Both me and my husband left feeling recharged after our relaxing stay.
This Toronto staycation came just at the right time and was just the break we both needed in our daily routines.
We loved exploring the neighbourhood areas as well as enjoying all the amenities the hotel had to offer. All the staff were so kind and friendly and we really felt at home during our stay there!
