Being the skincare junkie I am, when I heard about U Beauty’s new $200 sunscreen, it definitely had me intrigued. Priced at 168 USD – just a over $200 CAD, it’s a hefty price to pay for a sunscreen, but it’s suppose to be so much more than just that!
U Beauty is a luxury clean beauty skincare brand founded by Tina Chen Craig of Bag Snob. I’m usually not very celeb/influencer skincare lines, but I had heard great things about some of her other products. So I was open to giving the U Beauty Multimodal Defender SPF 30 a try.
U Beauty has a philosophy of doing more with less. Their products are multifunctional and aim to simply skincare with fewer products that do more. Their luxe skincare line is hypoallergenic, cruelty free, gluten free and sustainable with non-toxic ingredients and recylcable packaging.
They recently launched their Multimodal Defender SPF 30 Sunscreen. And I’ve been testing it out for the past few weeks and here are my thoughts on it.
U Beauty Multimodal Defender SPF 30 Sunscreen Review
The U Beauty Multimodal Defender SPF 30 is an all in one day cream that protects your skin while targeting dullness, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, discoloration, pores, and fine lines and wrinkles.
This cream has an ultra rich velvety texture. It’s a bit on the firm side when you scoop it up. But as you apply it to your skin it warms up and melts in beautifully leaving my skin glowy and dewy.
Because it’s so rich, I would think it’s better for dry skin and older skin types. My skin is typically quite dry in the cold winters here, so this cream has been amazing for protecting and hydrating my skin.
But come summer, I think it might be too rich for me to use as my skin type changes to more be more of a combination-oily.
Layering skincare products, is common practice for me. But I found that with this cream, it really is a stand alone product. I found it didn’t pair well if I wore serums under.
With its anti-aging and brightening ingredients, Multimodal Defender SPF 30 already provides skincare benefits so that additional products aren’t required. But for me, it just felt like a big commitment to me to just use one product on my face after years of doing a multi step routine.
I’ve been using the U Beauty Multimodal Defender SPF 30 consistently for the past 2 and half weeks, and overall I have been loving it! And my skin has been been looking brighter and glowier for sure, as well as more supple and hydrated.
I’ve also noticed a small improvement in the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks too. Considering it was pretty much the only product I was using during the day, I was impressed with the visible difference.
So is it worth the $200?
If you’re into luxury beauty and looking for a simplified, yet effective product, I’d say yes!
It is pricey, but because the U Beauty Multimodal Defender SPF 30 is multipurpose cream, it covers your bases for a moisturizer, sunscreen, and serum(s). Which would probably run you about $200 anyway if you’re looking at luxury skincare.
Think you’d try this out for yourself?

April 17, 2022Does it leave a white cast or rubs off easily?
Eileen
April 24, 2022No, there’s no white cast, and it’s pretty thick so it stays on quite well.

January 21, 2022Not sure if I want to spend that much money on sunscreen but it sounds lovely! Love that it’s multipurpose too. I think that justifies the price tag 🙂
