DIY: Hemp Beaded Wish Bracelet
Finally! I have the time to do a little DIY! Here’s a quick little tutorial to make some fun, stackable beaded hemp bracelets. These bracelets are ultra dainty and adds new texture to your arm candy collection.
- Gather your supplies: You’ll need about 50 inches of hemp and assorted beads & charms.
- In this tutorial, I’ve decided to make this a 3 stranded wish bracelet, but you can make it a single, double, or multi-stranded. Cut each strand of hemp to measure about 14 inches long. String your assorted beads through each of the strands. Add on a charm or two an extra polished touch if you like.
- Overlap the ends and use the remaining hemp to do a series of 4-8 square knots to make it adjustable.
- To finish off the bracelet, string all the hemp strands through a bead and tie the ends together with overhand knot. Now you’re ready to show off your new arm candy!
P.S. Because this bracelet is adjustable, you can also wear it as an anklet!

Hi,
Really like the bracelet!
I’m just starting to get into making jewelery so I’m still learning. How does adding square knots make it adjustable when you’re making the square knots from all the cords? I just re-read step 3 and I think it means taking another piece of hemp and using it to make the square knots. Do you just leave its ends free to be with the rest? Do you use glue to prevent the square knots from coming undone? I would guess I would have to be careful not to hit the strands from the bracelet itself (couldn’t adjust then). Step 4 – I’m guessing when you say “all of the hemp strands through a bead” means each hemp strand through a bead. At least that’s what I get from the pictures. Great pictures by the way!

Hi Cathy,
Glad you like the tutorial. Square knots allow the pieces of hemp to sliding and allow them to be are adjustable. You’ll be using a new piece of hemp to tie the square knots. I usually cut the ends short, and then secure them with a little glue. But I find without the glue is usually okay too. If you’ve done a few square knots in a row it should hold just fine. As for the ends. I just gather all the strands facing the same way through a bead knot together. Then I do the same thing with the other ends.

I think I understand about the square knots. Thanks for the link for square but I’m an ex-macramer from way back in the 70s.
I understand about all the strands facing the same way. So you put all the ends on one side into one single bead and then same with the side?
In the pictures it looks like each strand has its own bead.
What I like especially abou the hemp is it’s quite cheap. Yay!!!
Last comment: I envy you having the ability to imagine something and then make it. I can generally do the craft or DIY or whatever but I don’t have the vision to see it in my mind to start with. You’re very lucky!

Ah ha!!!!! I got it!!!
I’ve just taken another good look. Hemp is quite thin at least here it is. So gathering all the strands together still doesn’t make it very thick and can easily go through a bead.

Great! Yes, the hemp I used for this bracelet was pretty thin. If you’re using thicker hemp you can try to find a beads with bigger holes or just tie the ends in a simple knot.
The idea behind a wish bracelet is that you make a wish, and tie it on. Eventually, the hemp wears out, and you will lose the beads. Which sounds sad, but when this happens, your wish is then “released” and is supposed to come true.
I think you’ll get more creative as you start making more jewelry. I find Pinterest is a great way to get inspiration for new ideas!
