The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) has always been one of my favorite Toronto summer traditions. Every year, it feels like the perfect way to close out the season — bright lights on the midway, the smell of fried food in the air, and that mix of nostalgia and excitement you only get at a fair.
But this year was different. Though it’s my second time going with Ella, this year she’s finally a little bigger and able to take it all in. And suddenly the whole experience felt brand new. Seeing it through her curious little eyes gave me a fresh perspective — and made it even more special.

Walking the Midway
We started our day strolling through the midway — me in my denim dress, Ella happily riding in the stroller, both of us taking in the energy around us. The music, the colorful booths, the squeals from the rides — it all felt so alive.
I’ve walked these same streets so many times before, but having Ella there made it feel magical in a different way, like rediscovering a piece of my own childhood.

The Food (Because You Can’t Skip It)
Let’s be real: the food is half the reason to go to the CNE. Every year, I tell myself I’ll try something new and ridiculous — but this time, I went straight for the deep-fried cheese curds. Crispy, golden, and absolutely addictive. The kind of fair food that feels indulgent in the best way.
And of course I neede something a little sweet too and got some churros to snack on while walking around

CNE Farm Fun
One of Ella’s favorite stops was the CNE Farm. Watching her little face light up as she spotted the animals was such a sweet moment. She was fascinated by the llamas and kept pointing at them like they were the most magical creatures in the world.
I’ve always loved the farm section, but this year it hit differently. It wasn’t about me anymore — it was about her joy, and that made it better than any ride or snack.

A Tiny Souvenir
We wandered into the crafts area and found the cutest little succulents at @plantpartydanforth. I picked one up as a keepsake — something small and cheerful that will last a whole lot longer than cotton candy.
I love finding little treasures like this at the CNE. It’s such a good reminder that it’s not just about the rides and the food — there’s always something unexpected waiting if you slow down and look.

Core Memories
As the sun set, we found ourselves walking past the ferris wheel. Ella was holding her dad’s hand, the sky painted in pink and purple, and I couldn’t help but think: this is the best part of the EX. Not the rides, not the snacks — but these little family moments I’ll remember long after summer fades.

The CNE has always been a tradition I’ve loved, but this year made me appreciate it in a whole new way. Experiencing it through Ella’s eyes reminded me that it’s not just about the spectacle — it’s about the memories you create along the way.
So yes, I’ll be back next year for the food, the fun, and the shopping. But more than anything, I’ll be back for the chance to make more of these core memories.
Until next summer, CNE. 🎡✨
