It’s been couple months since I’ve done my monthly Beauty Faves feature (let’s just blame Christmas for that), so I’ve had some extra time to be trying out a ton of new products. Some I like, some not so much, but the ones you’re seeing today are all the ones I love! I have a little bit of everything for this month’s Beauty Faves edition; skincare, makeup and haircare. Check out all the products that I’ve put through paces below.
January Skincare Favorites
1. Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk – Soap & Glory ($25)
This Deep Cleansing Milk by Soap & Glory is just amazing for taking off make up. It’s so gentle yet it literally melts makeup away and leaves my skin feeling soft and amazing. It’s specially formulated with a clogged pore formula to give your skin a daily detox while invigorating and cleansing skin. Plus it’s ultra gentle and perfect for sensitive skin types (like mine) and to top it all it smells divine!
2. Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant – Elizabeth Arden ($29)
Created by Ms. Arden herself, this legendary, award-winning cream calms, protects and hydrates skin for up to eight hours. The story is, just 8 hours after a loyal client applied the cream on her child’s skinned knee, the wound nearly healed-that’s how this product got its name. Now the Eight Hour Cream is in the purses of beauty editors and makeup artists worldwide. After trying the Eight Hour Cream for myself, I was understood why. It’s a total skin saver that soothes the of driest skin, and its versatile formula can be used to shape brows, add shine to cheeks, smooth cuticles and more.
3. Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay – Origins ($34)
I was only recently introduced to skincare of Origins last year, and I have to say I’m becoming a huge fan. Unlike most clay masks, the Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay is not drying at all on the skin. It gives a gentle, but deep detox to your pores while also refining the skin’s texture. You can see immediate results as pores seem to vanish and skin looks clearer. My skin also felt surprisingly smooth afterwards. Key ingredients include with Canadian willowherb, Persian silk tree, and a potent blend of actives to smooth, refine pores, and boost skin’s overall quality.
4. Midnight Radiance Mask – Omorovicza ($150)
Designed to brighten and hydrate the skin when it’s in repair mode, the Midnight Radiance Mask is an overnight treatment helps to improve the appearance of dark spots and brings a radiance to the complexion so you can wake up with your skin refreshed. This is the first Omorovicza product I’ve tried and I have to say I’m very impressed. The effects of this mask are immediate, and the morning after I wake up with my absolutely glowing, hydrated and flawless. At $150, this item is definitely a splurge item, but I think I think it worth the pretty penny.
5. Sensitive Formula Mandarin Polishing Beads – June Jacobs ($60)
This June Jacobs gentle face scrub was designed for sensitive skin with a range of innovative ingredients such as sand lily, black willow extract, red algae, and salicylic acid. The beads polishing beads are do their job without being overly course or abrasive, as I find with many mechanical exfoliants. I find it gentle enough to use on a daily basis and it leaves my skin ultra soft, visibly healthy and radiant.
6. Lumiere Bio-restorative Eye Cream With PSP – NeoCutis ($135)
I have tried many eye creams and this one is the best by far. The Lumiere Bio-restorative Eye Cream contains hyaluronic acid helps to plump and hydrate the delicate skin under the eye reducing the appearance of dark circles, while the PSP growth factors help to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. A little goes a long way too! At $97, it’s a more luxe purchase, but taking your eye area from a young age is definitely worth it.
7. Anti-Aging Day Cream for Dry Skin Revival – Marcelle Cosmetics ($34)
Although this moisturizer is targeted for ages 45+, I’ve been using the Anti-Aging Day Cream daily during the dry cold Toronto winter and it’s been perfect for my skin. It’s so moisturizing and keeps my skin hydrated all day long. It’s specifically formulated with Chicory Root extract to restores skin density, suppleness and youthful radiance. It wears well under make up and I love that its also have SPF 15 in it.
8. Glow Tonic To Go – Pixi ($20)
Pixi’s Glow Tonic reached iconic cult status in a few years ago and these pads are and upgraded version composed of 20% glycolic acid. These pads are like a mini chemical peel with alpha-hydroxy acids that works to remove dead skin cells that can render complexions dull, and help reduce hyperpigmentation and improve the smoothness skin by increasing cellular turnover that boosts collagen production. I love how the Glow Tonic To Go pads are so handy!
January Make Up Favorites
1. Pressed Mineral Foundation – Clove and Hallow ($30)
On a day to day basis, I usually only use mineral foundation and this one has become a new favourite for me! This pressed mineral powder foundation is PETA-certified cruelty free and vegan. It applies easily and smoothly, and can be layered for less or more coverage that lasts all day as long, as I use a finishing spray with it. I also found that it matched my asian skin tone very well which is a struggle that I’ve had with many mineral foundations.
2. Just Glow Rose Gold Highlighter – Hard Candy ($6)
This was my go-to highlighter for the holiday season. The Just Glow Rose Gold Highlighter is a soft, creamy powder highlighter with three unique shades in one pan that you can use on your own or blend for a gorgeous rose gold shade. I love how it’s a subtle shimmer that you can wear in the day, but also layer it on if you want to go full glam in the evenings.
3. Nourish & Define Brow Pomade – Plume ($38)
I’m seriously obsessed with this product right now. Not only does this brow pomade define and color your brows beautifully, it also promotes the growth of them with 100% natural, vegan, and cruelty-free ingredients that benefit skin and hair. Made by Canadian natural beauty brand, Plume, it’s actually a beauty product that benefits your skin and brow hair every time you wear it. It’s available in five different shades and comes with a double-ended Plume angled brow and spoolie brush.
4. Contouring Palette – Quo
This contouring palette was one of the holiday features from the Quo collection. I found these powders are finely milled and evening pigmented. They apply beautifully on the skin an every single color in this palette is usable, making it highly versatile. I never do a makeup look without my contour palette and this contour palette is one of my favourites yet.
5. Inkstroke Eyeliner – Shiseido ($35)
I really love the Inkstroke Eyeliner. It’s goes on smooth and light, and doesn’t tug on my eye lids. The pot comes with a mini liner brush with a super fine point to create the perfect cat eye. The packaging is just brilliant and a unique feature of this product is a” v ” in the middle of the pot to scrape off excess product, so you have just the right amount on the brush. It lasts all day long and doesn’t smudge either.
6. Sheer Envy Glow Luminous Setting Spray – Hard Candy ($6)
I’m all about flawless looking skin, and this product just makes it happen! The Hard Candy Sheer Envy Glow Luminous Setting Spray is a weightless spray that locks in makeup for long wear and is infused with light reflecting pearls that leave skin with a dewy and luminous finish. It does a great job helping my makeup last all day long and I really love how it makes my skin glow. Best of all this setting spray is price at a budget friendly $6.
7. Lip Pop Shadow – Clinique ($25)
Move on over lipstick, the lip pop is here! This lip shadow is like a creamy lipstick that goes on weightlessly with built in sponge tip applicator. The pigmentation is great, with true vibrant colors. You can create a soft wash of stain-like color or an intense, saturated matte lip look by layering. It gives a full color and stays where it should. The applicator is also better than most gloss applicators because it is more precise. Currently my favourite lip product of the moment!
January Hair Care Favorites
1. Densifying Shampoo and Conditioner – Viviscal ($20 each)
Now who doesn’t want fuller more voluminous hair? This Densifying Shampoo and Conditioner does just that while gently cleanses to leave hair looking naturally thicker. It nourishes with the proprietary complex Ana:Tel™ plus Keratin, Biotin & Zinc, to help your hair appear in fuller. I saw a difference right away when I used it, and it made my hair seem both more voluminous and thicker when I styled it. I like how the conditioner is light and rinses clean to leave hair feeling smooth. After I’ve been using it for the past couple months, I wouldn’t say my hair has grown more, but it definitely makes it appearance of having more hair.
2. Revive & Hydrate Shea Butter Hair Mask – Maui Moisture ($9)
This Revive & Hydrate Shea Butter Hair Mask leaves your hair feeling and looking intensely moisturized, which is awesome for dry, color-treated damaged hair. It smells just heavenly and I do notice that my hair feels much softer after using it. I feel like the product softened the damaged parts of my hair and strengthened my weak ends. And I’ve added it to my weekly haircare routine to do a the mask once a week.
3. Interchangeable Curling Wand – T3 (starts at $235)
The T3 Interchangeable Curling Wand is hands down the best curler I’ve ever tried. It heats up almost instantly and after use my hair looks shiny and the curls last all day. With the interchangeable wand you can create a wide range of styles. My favourite is the 1.5 inch wand which I use to make look curls. It takes me only 8 minutes to curl my long hair everyday which is such a time saver. It’s seriously worth the investment.
4. Sea Salt Spray – KMS Hair ($28)
This is the perfect product for making beachy waves. I love to use it the next day after curling my hair and it creates the most perfect waves while absorbing the excess oil in my hair. It goes on weightlessly and holds my waves all day long. I love the matte finish and as a bonus it make my hair look more voluminous as well.
5. Straightforward Time-Saving Blow Dry Oil – Shu Uemura Art of Hair ($30)
Blowing my hair is such a pain and this Time Saving Blow Dry Oil just cuts that time in half while leaving my hair smooth and shiny. With a brush and my blow dryer my hair comes out perfectly smooth without needing a flat iron. It does not weigh my hair down my fine hair, but does tame all frizz. It’s an everyday essential for me.
